USA, Connecticut, Dudleytown or Dudleyville

Dudleytown (also know as Dudleyville or Dudley Town) is a deserted village in the woods of Cornwall, Connecticut. Residents of the town from the mid-1700's to the early-1800's fell victim to its "curse". The town could be haunted or it's residents may have only had a streak of bad luck. There are records of unusual and violent deaths, suicides, and hardships.

Some visitors to the site have claimed that the area is an eerie "dead zone". Reportedly there are few animals in the woods and one hears almost no birds singing. This may suggest that Dudleytown is some sort of vortex, possibly an evil one.

Dudleytown Hill is located just South of Coltsfoot Mountain at about longitude 41°47'30" latitude 73°22'30". Dark Entry Road is located near the Cornwall bridge. Map, Y Map

The area is owned by the Dark Entry Forest Association. You must have permission to park, and it's unlikely that you will get it. The area is never open to visitors without permission - you are trespassing if you are there, and you can be arrested.

In an August, 1993 interview in Playboy magazine, "Ghostbuster" Dan Akroyd called Dudleytown: " . . . The most haunted place on earth."

Your comment on USA, Connecticut, Dudleytown or Dudleyville here.About two years ago, maybe 2006 I took up the challenge to go check out Dudleyville. I found Dark Enry Road but the grade seemed to seep for my car (A VW Beetle)so I backed out ,went up the road about a mile and found a place I could park my car at the side of the road. I walked back to Dark Entry Road Call it DER for quick reference in this message. I walked up the road which seemed to me to be increasingly steep. About a mile up the road I saw a number of homes set back from this road and evidently rather nice homes. A little way further, I was what looked like the foundation of a n abandoned home. Thought theere was a pile of rubbish under a tarpaulin near it. I walked on over. It weemed totally quiet and I remember that I found it increasingly difficult to breath, kind of a shortness of breath ob=n my part. I do have asthma, so I wondered if that was what I was experiencing, but I have rarely had any difficulty climbing sairs or steep hills in the past. I did get to the fork in the road and Iwent down the left fork and nothing seemed to be unusual My watch was working, so that was unaffeected, and in looking at it, I realized it was time to head back home. This was inbroad day light, but I still felt like I was where I shouldn't be When I got back to my car, I found a road nearby th seemed to be as steeep as DER and the cr had no difficulty with it---scooted right up. Why did it have difficulty on DER. I don't know I am a religious guy and believe in God, but I also feel that evil is real too. It sure seemed tha way on DER--almost like something was telling me---GO BACK DOWN I had trouble breathing as I passed what I had thought were ruins while going back to the main road Submitted for what it is worth

"Also, they have closed off the area to hikers this year (I hear), so you may have a tough time getting access."

yeah they did..argh. its funny because last summer i took the kids for a ride with me out there, looking for where it was. i couldn't find any information on it online, and only vague information in my books.

this time, i found info but there are 'no trespassing' signs all over the place.

i guess some fools ruined it for everyone. but its not over till the fat lady sings (as they say).

so will see what happens :)

I been looking all over the net for information on Dudley Town and finally found some really intresting links. One of them I came across was your page. I was wondering how to get to Dudley Town? What exactly is the DEF association and gave them the right to control the land? Shouldn't the land be owned by the state government of Ct if all the originating town members left, died, or abandoned the place? and why do they limit at what time you can go there?

I'am a very intrigued by the unusual tales I hear about Dudleyville, CT. Although I've never seen a ghost or anything along the line of a haunt. Is there any way that you can tell me how to get a hold of the Dark Entry Forest Association that owns the town.

i have a different theory for dudley i heard the only thing that they could grow in the rocky soil was rye, which can mold and be hallucinogenic and kill ... also you might want to add to your site that the whole bald mountain and dark entry road is off limits and we were ticketed for trespassing today

I have lived in Connecticut my whole life. I have been to Dudley, as have my friends, a few teachers and other people i've met. It has never been Dudley Village, at least not to locals. And there is no evil vortex. It is true, the hauntings, no birds or animals. Strange sounds loom day and night, and nothing electric works. Sometimes not even a liter. And yes the people were mad and killed eachother. But the one fact that I haven't seen any one mention is that it was all caused by mercury in the water. Hundreds of years ago Mercury ended up being a very destuctive force throughout CT. Thats why the Danbury foot ball team is called the Mad Hatters.Due to the mercury in the hat liners the hatters worked with.

I just wanted to point that out. Thank you.
