Spooky Files . The Spooky Things

Parapsychology

Psychology beyond the normal mental abilities. A parapsychological phenomena is often referred to as Psi.

Parapsycholgy includes: ESP (Extra-Sensory Perception), psychokinesis, reincarnation, and near death experiences.

Extra Sensory Perception or ESP

ESP is "sensing" anything beyond the normal. ESP includes telepathy, precognition or premonition, and clairvoyance or "remote viewing".

Telepathy is the ability to communicate using only the mind.

Precognition is knowing about things before they happen.

Remote Viewing is being able to "see" places that you can't see with normal vision, usually which are very far away.

Near Death Experiences or NDE

Many people have nearly died when their hearts stopped and/or they have stopped breathing, and have been brought back to life. Examples are drowning victims getting CPR to resume breathing, or heart attack victims having their hearts restarted with a electric defibrillator. Frequently these people describe similar occurances while they were near death. They often speak of a bright or warm light and of a feeling of intense love.

Often people who have had a NDE are changed by it. They have usually have a renewed vigor for life. This is commonly accompanied by a lack of materialism. Usually near death experiencers do not fear death, however they feel suicide is very wrong.

Psychokinesis or PK

Psychokinesis is the ability to move or manipulate objects using only the mind. These objects can be anything, from a spoon to a thunderstorm to an animal or person.

Manipulating any living entity is referred to as "Bio-Psychokinesis".

Telekinesis is the ability to move or manipulate objects using unexplained means.

I would Like to know If there is a technique that I could exercise for ESP? That logically make sense.

A deck of 52 playing cards is interesting in that you have a wide selection of things to predict with varying odds of being correct. As decks of playing cards are widely available, it makes them a easy choice to try.

card color 2:1
card suit 4:1
card number 13:1
card number and suit 52:1

Decks of tarot cards would have similar properties, and have the major arcana (the fool, death, the tower, etc.) to work with as well. You could even use the major arcana exclusively, and not work at all with the minor arcana. This might help if your psychic ability is more of mind reading, and you can't differentiate between a seven of hearts or seven of diamonds.

Thanks Larry,

She would flip the coin, turn around and I'd look at top of hand and select. I find if I just say what I think first instead of trying to think, I don't miss. I have never tried cards but maybe I should. Even the Super Bowl, I thought tails but didn't believe my first thought and called heads. Tails was correct. 50/50 chance. I will try other things and see where it leads me.

Fascinating!

It's hard to deduce much about your father's experience, as there is limited information, except to say that if you do have any psychic abilities they could very well be hereditary.

In your personal experiments in coin flipping, did you guess the result of the flip before the flip, or did you guess the results after the flip - where you could not see the coin but the other person could? One would suggest some form of "mind reading" abilities, where the other would suggest precognition or psychokinesis.

Have you tried to predict result in a more complex scenario - such as the spin of a roulette wheel or the next card to be turned over in a deck of cards?

I meant to say without a miss after 25+ correct calls one night and additional five the next day. Can anyone explain how this can happen and what if anything I can do to better understand.

A number of years ago my stepdaughter and I started fliping coins and I'd guess. Didn't miss after a few facing her so she turned her back and would face me after fliping. I called 25+ in a row without a miss. Got a little strange so we stopped that I didn't miss. Next night did the same thing with wife at that time and ran 5+ without a miss and stopped again. That was over twenty four years ago.

Before my father passed away, I asked him if he ever had unusual thing happen like this. Stated he had and once while playing cards, made a bid on his hand while across the room from the cards and upon seeing them, the bid was accurate. He wouldn't go into more detail about other times. He has since passed. He did state my mother also had some unusual things happen while she was alive.

Have any others out there had similar experiences? Please advise if you have.

Determining odds for something like telepathy would be about the same methodology as determining odds for gambling. So, the odds of guessing a correct number on the spin of the roulette wheel would be exactly the same as if the guesser were using telepathy or some mathematical system. The method of determining the event outcome shouldn't change the event outcome.

Now, the ability to read minds would be useless in roulette, as the dealer does not know the outcome of the spin beforehand. However, if you had a deck with 38 cards, and you had one person look at the cards, and you had the telepath guess the card they were looking at, then you would have the same basic math as with a roulette wheel. While changing the nature of the game, the odds would be the same, and so you could use the same statistical formulas.

I think you would find there has been more serious mathematical study of roulette and other gambling than of telepathy, and yet a good deal of it might be applicable to any rigorous scientific look at telepathy.

I have just been looking at your site and I thought it was great.

I am looking for some research into the field of Telepathy for an experiment at my College. I do Mathematics and one of the pieces of course work is about Telepathy and the odds of the person getting it right. It sounds difficult so for my background info I would really appreciate some help, if you can that is?

"what is the difference between coincidence and esp or parapsychology?"

I'm no parapsychology expert, but I think some basic statistics would help differentiate coincidence from some something else.

You would have a 50% chance of accurately predicting the outcome of a coin flip. You would have a 25% chance of accurately predicting two in a row. You would have a 12.5% chance of accurately predicting three in a row. You would have a 6.25% chance of accurately predicting four in a row.

The more flips in a row you try to guess the less likely you would be to do it. The more you beat the odds the less likely it is coincidence and is something more. If someone really had ESP they might be able to do something such as predicting coin flips with unlikely accuracy on a regular basis.

My daughter is performing a scientific experiment for school and testing individuals for ESP sensitivity. She needs the special ESP cards with colors and shapes on them that are used for this purpose. Could you tell me where I can get them? Thank you.

I am trying to learn REAL telekinesis and telepathy, and perhaps materialization. Got any ideas where I should start?

Two months ago, just before I fell asleep, a black cloak or black shirt appeared and fell into my body. I know that it sounds strange but this happened. That evening, one of my half-sister's died. She was one who had particularly disliked me. I have had paranormal things happen to me before. Where do I look to see what legends surround this black thing? I was terrified by it and did not open my eyes for several minutes. The previous experiences have all been in the form of premonitions. I have witnesses to this. I never believed them before, but I would always tell someone in case and most came true. Now I am curious, what should I do? I am not a superstitious person but I am in touch with something that I can't explain. Can you tell me where to start? Thank you.

I am looking for resources to gain further insight to the development and use of Telekinesis. I have experienced some dramatic events particularly in actual physical levitation in "emergencies"

If one has esp and telepathy who is being communicated to? Who is listening to your brain? Why is a person's brain being listened to? If it is being listened to involuntarily, would this not constitute a violation of the first amendment? Has the u.s. goverenment experimented with telepathy and esp? Would the military have any use for telepathy and esp? If one has esp, is it painful? Is it a daily 24 hour occurance?
