J. K. Rowling and Harry Potter

Joanna K. Rowling is a Best selling British author. Harry Potter is her books title character.

J. K. Rowling was a divorced single mother living in a small flat (apartment) in Edinburgh, Scotland. At a local coffee shop she began writing her first Harry Potter novel - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Then the Scottish Arts Council gave her a grant to finish the book. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone along with the follow up novels have all been record breaking best sellers.

The Harry Potter series is a seven book arc, with the final volume "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" having been released on July 21, 2007.

Perhaps to avoid convtroversy, magic in the Harry Potter universe is generally protrayed as mostly mechanical and being devoid of religious overtones. Spells and potions in Harry Potter must be done with certain ingredients and in a certain manner, however they do not call upon Gods or Godesses, and do not use pentacles or even candles.

Parental lineage is a magical factor in Harry Potter, with some people having magical abilities and being wizards, and most people being non-magical or "muggles". A person with magical abilites can come from non-wizard parents. These people may be mockingly referred to as "mud bloods", which is not a nice thing to call someone.

Because of their extreme popularity, all of the Harry Potter books have been or are scheduled to be adapted as movies.
